Cyborg Bacon

Bacon!

So I am talking about this...

I have to be honest. I really had no idea what I was going to do for my first post. You see, 2/3 of the geeks on this site are knowledgeable about geek things to make money with. The first time I hung out with Marc, he said more business-y and money making sounding things in the first two minutes of the conversation than I have said in my entire life. The 1/3 of the 2/3 that is me (still with me?) is a geek in the “spend way too much money on stuff that makes my kids 9 year old friends think I am cool but my wife think I am a dork” variety.

I was talking to Josh about the fact that I am pretty much angry any time of the day that I am not consuming bacon. I would literally eat bacon all day, everyday if it was not for the fact that pig fat is like kryptonite for your heart. So he was like “What if, in the future, there was a pill that would allow you to eat whatever you want with no health concerns at all?” My first thought was “Dude yes!” followed by “That would be expensive!” followed by “Bacon Bankruptcy!” and that was it. I had to admit that I would be first in line for the all you can eat bacon pill when/if it ever happens. We also talked about cyborg bacon, but that is a topic for a different day…

But really, would it be good to go at food with reckless abandon? Part of what make pecan pie one of my favorite desserts is that I never have it except around the holidays. Sushi is fantastic because I only eat it once every other month or so. If I got to eat all the bacon I wanted whenever I wanted, would that really be a good thing or would I lose my love of pig meat? Does absence actually make the heart grow fonder?

So, while I thought originally that 24/7/365 bacon would be insanely rad, maybe the love affair is from the fact that I only have it every once in a while. Maybe, if money and heart disease were not a hurdle, I still would eat bacon sparingly so as to never taint my love. And maybe that is why God does not just dole out all the “blessings” we as Christians feel denied at times. Would we really appreciate the love of our family or million other little blessings that come our way on a daily basis? Would we still have the ability to enjoy the little things in life if we were able to live with out abandon? How would you know you are at the top of the mountain if you did not have to wander through the valleys? Now, I am not trying to compare the love of Christ with bacon, bacon was just the catalyst that got me thinking about this.

So, I guess I would not want to take that pill. So you are safe little piggies, for now…
